Over 160 junior golfers enroll in the Claycrest junior golf program annually. Claycrest boasts one of the most successful programs in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Private and group golf instruction is given year round or by appointment. The junior golf program begins June 12, 2009 and runs through Friday, August 14, 2009. You can pre-register starting May 1, 2009 by calling or stopping by the pro- shop. The cost is $80.00 per child and fees are not collected until Friday, June 12, 2009 (the first day of junior golf). Registration begins on June 12, 2009 at 8:00 am. On that day, parents and juniors receive their member packets, rules, golf balls, tees, and clubs if needed. The golf clinic begins at 9:00 am on the practice range. Juniors spend time on the golf course learning about the game and about golf course care. The starting times are important. Pairings are made early in the morning and the entire group is split into two categories (par and birdie). Juniors arriving late could spend the entire day on the practice range even if they are scheduled for the course. All lady juniors are paired together. See the schedule below for more information. 2009 JUNIOR GOLF SCHEDULE
We need volunteers and staff for the 2009 program. The 2008 season was one of the best seasons ever. Some 150 kids ages 6 to 15 were taught swing fundamentals, course etiquette, short game/putting techniques, and USGA rules. The season ended with a cook-out, fireworks, and the traditional skill level awards.
Anyone from 6 to 15 years of age can participate. Students are are accompanied by a host of volunteers and two PGA teaching professionals. Instruction is provided on the grip, stance, posture, and life skills while participants rotate between practice, playing time, and instruction.
Top performers in various age categories are recognized for improvement and low practice scores. Lunch is provided in the clubhouse. The cost is $80.00 per participant for the summer.
